Recovery

Once Prosoft Engineering Data Rescue Is download and set up, users have to pick a volume they want to scan.

The software detects partitions on the hard drive, so you can select a specific partition, if you just want to recover a specific file, or scan the entire hard drive if you want to recover a deleted or damaged partition.

Once you select what is going to be scanned, the tool allows selecting between a quick or a deep scan.

The quick scan will reveal recently deleted files, or files from a non-mounting partition that still has its file system.

If you are trying to recover long deleted files, the deep scan will be needed.

Prosoft Engineering Data Rescue informs users about the scan process and how much of the scan has completed.

When the scan finishes, users can navigate the list with a file tree pane on the left side. The tool also allows previewing returned data.

However, Data Rescue does not offer any thumbnail preview. Instead, it allows a search for files and filters them by their status.

Data Rescue supports any file type, as long as it is able to be found in an HFS/NTFS catalog.

The quick scan took approximately five to seven minutes, while the deep scan took about three hours.

Features

As it was mentioned before, Data Rescue offers users Standard and Professional license.

Prosoft Engineering Data Rescue Standard includes the following:

  • Advanced Search allows to find files instantly with search fields and search criteria.
  • Duplicate Recognition excludes duplicate files from recovery.
  • Recovery File Preview allows previewing files before recovering them.
  • Robus File Support
  • Time Machine Compatibility allows recovering Time Machine Backups without duplicates.
  • Email Notifications

Data Rescue is also capable of restoring internal and external storage, including desktops and laptops, hard disk drives, external drives, solid state drives, SD and SF cards, Thunderbolt drives and FireWire drives.

Prosoft Engineering Data Rescue offers a wide range of features. However, there are few features that are missing.

We did not find it convenient that there is no feature to scan by file type or recover data from optical media. In addition, Thumbnail previews would be nice, too, to help sort through recovered data.

The Professional License includes all the mentioned features and faster scan and recovery speeds, professional user interface, Mac and PC cross-compatibility, unlimited drive recoveries and allows users to view Raw drive and file data.

Customer Support

Prosoft Engineering offers users customer support The support can be reached via Live Chat at office hours from Monday to Friday 8 AM – 5 PM PST. Users also can contact the support team via email for a dull detailed response. The emails are replied within 1-2 business days.

Users also can browse the support page that includes FAQs, How-Tos, and other product related information. However, we couldn’t find the search option to navigate the support page or a user forum.

The final verdict

Prosoft Engineering Data Rescue is one of the most powerful tools out there. It offers a variety of features, restores more than 100 file types and allows to restore internal and external storage. However, it might seem expensive and a deep scan is slow.
