BullGuard Internet Security for Mac Review

The company focuses on delivering advanced, next-gen security products across all the main operating systems, including Windows PCs, Macs, Android and iOS devices, cloud, and IoT devices.

BullGuard develops multi-layered security protection for home users and businesses across the globe. The company’s products are certified and awarded by all the biggest independent testing labs, including AV-Comparatives, AV-TEST and Virus Bulletin for its’ perfect malware detection rates.[3]

BullGuard offers Mac users two antivirus and Internet security packages that are compatible with both Windows PCs and Macs. Users who want to protect their Macs can choose from BullGuard Internet Security or BullGuard Premium Protection. Both packages protect multiple devices and include a license for Android security.

BullGuard Internet Security starts at about $70 for a year for a single device. The company also offers 100% Money Back Guarantee if you are not happy with the product. In addition, users can try the Internet Security package for 2 months for free.

We have already tested the BullGuard Antivirus package for Windows and BullGuard Mobile Security for Android. Now researchers at Reviewed by Pro decided to the BullGuard Internet Security suite for Mac.

Test results

BullGuard does not provide antivirus for Macs severely, it is only available as a part of BullGuard Internet Security or BullGuard Premium Security. The antivirus for Mac is compatible with macOS 10.11 El Capitan or later. We tested the security suite for about 10 days in order to evaluate its’ antivirus protection and performance.

Antivirus protection

BullGuard applies next-gen advanced AntiMalware and antivirus techniques in order to keep its customer protected.

Constant innovation is central to everything we do ensure our customers have the best multi-layered protection possible against all types of viruses, malware, ransomware, and all online threats.

Once we installed the antivirus on our test Mac, then performed the full system scan. BullGuard antivirus protection missed some threats on our test Mac. After the first scan, we decided to perform an additional full system scan. The second scan revealed most of the threats and malware samples installed on our test Mac.

We would say that the antivirus protection is inconsistent.

As it was mentioned before, the company has a number of awards and certifies from the largest independent testing labs, such as AV-TEST or AV-Comparatives, however, none of them tested the BullGuard software on Macs.

System-performance impact and scanning performance

When it comes to the system-performance impact, BullGuard has a mediocre impact on a system. It slows down the system performances by 12-15% while working in the background. During the active scans. BullGuard Internet Security hit the test Mac by an average of 35%. The full system scan took about an hour, while the quick one was finished in about 5 minutes. However, the quick system scan did not detect any malicious icons installed.
